1. Investment companies make big money on 401(k) accounts, even when account holders do not. The number of 401(k) investors has increased dramatically in recent years. According to Cerulli Associates, a research and consulting firm specializing in the financial services industry, that number has risen to 50 million providers. Though the companies are more and more efficient as a result of the increased competition, that doesn’t necessarily mean account holders see the financial benefit.
2. The 401(k) account rarely offers top funds. The reason is that asset managers may not have the best funds in a category. For example, a company may offer a great large-cap stock fund option but a mediocre small-cap one. From a recent article on Yahoo! Finance, research director for Morningstar Russel Kinnel said, “If you see some lousy funds from the company that’s providing the plan, that’s probably why.”
3. “Target-date funds” may not be accurate. As required by last year’s Pension Protection Act, 401(k) accounts have “target dates” as default options. Every 401(k) allocates assets according to the acocunt holder’s expected date of retirement, and gets more conservative the closer it gets. Research shows that some target-date funds may not earn enough for retirement. Kinnel added, “Retirees may need to supplement funds with personal loans, family help or part-time work to make it through their monthly expenses.”
4. Account holders who quit their jobs may have to pay to keep their 401(k) at the former-employer company. A Hewitt study purported that 32% of people that quit their jobs left their 401(k) accounts with their previous employer. It might seem easier to leave the account where it is rather than the paperwork required to transfer, but the costs of doing so can be incredible.
5. Roth IRAs can be more beneficial than 401(k) plans, but few employers offer them. Though traditional 401(k) accounts have features of tax deferment, Roth IRAs are taxed up front rather than at the point of withdrawal. Only about 5% of retirement plans available through employers offer the Roth IRA option. A Roth IRA isn’t for everyone, but it does have benefit some people substantially.

There are other ways to create wealth

Other kinds of savings may create more wealth than retirement accounts. The 401(k) continues to be a work in progress and lawmakers are currently scrutinizing fees and procedures. Until rules are squared away, other savings ventures can offer higher returns. In the same Yahoo Finance article, Brent Glading of the Glading Group said, “For those who are not averse to risk, high-end stocks and bonds can be great investments that offer a bigger return in a shorter amount of time…they aren’t for the faint of heart though. I was just there during the summer baby monitor in hand. How did the time go by so fast and was I really that old to be a grandmother. But alas I am, and I am excited. It is going to be really cool to sit and watch my daughter go through the process. And after all I am the grandma and I get to spoil the baby right?

As the months fly by I see my lovely daughter blossom and grow as she is pregnant and cannot help but be proud of her. All of her cravings and what ifs bring me back to when I was pregnant with her and I giggle of how silly I was. But it isn’t with her because she doesn’t realize that yet.

Aw the memories flood back when I had the same mixed emotions coupled with raging hormones. It is such an exciting time in your life, I tell her, and it will all be okay. This is normal and everyone feels this way.

The time is coming. Faster than you think it going to happen. I want to be there for my daughter just like my mom was for me. I want to be a great grandmother and not be meddling or over bearing. But I want to be supportive but not intrusive. It is a difficult line to walk and I need to be careful because I am excited too.

I decided to take her to go get registered for gifts, just like my mom took me. She opted for a beautiful set of crib accessories, baby bath towels and even a Graco car seat because she had done some reading on their safety. She opted for a jungle theme which I thought was very cute for her new little bundle of boy that was coming.

As the time became close the crib was assembled and the suitcase packed for the hospital. All was good and when the first labor pain started everything went without a hitch and she delivered a beautiful baby boy. Tears fill my eyes as I looked at my grandson for the first time, he was the most beautiful baby in the whole wide world.

So as I sit in my chair this first Christmas with my beautiful little grandson sleeping in my arms I feel so blessed. This is the way life is supposed to be and I am now the grandma. This realization is not sad at all, in fact I will be honored to be a great grandma to this wonderful little boy.

Although it had taken a few days, I at last had everything co-ordinated and was about to get everything booked when I received a phone call from my other half saying I couldn’t book anything because he couldn’t get the time off work.   I give up, no truly I have given up and have decided that I am going to take the stress out of it all and take a look at UK family holidays.  By choosing this sort of holiday it doesn’t matter about when we decide to travel.

Many different situations would be affected by the stutter, for example I found job interviews very stressful as I would stutter more when I was under pressure.

At the aged of 16 I began to drink alcohol and a short while later I became drunk for the very first time.
